• Where is the title?

    HMM?

  • I love reading @manton’s posts every day, like what book he read or what little thought he had about this idealistic thing or other. I even read it via RSS and not on here.

I probably don’t post over here much because I want to build the thing I post on (just like Manton).

  • I’ve been steeping myself in the BS world of LinkedIn, Twitter ads, Google ads lately in an effort to understand online sales more.

What I do understand is that it takes quite a stomach! Putting some thoughts here just as a breath of fresh air.

    I need to think!

  • Daddylife

Just. So. Tired. Head is spinning with ideas and I play out a narrative of all of the things that I’d like to write about every day. But then the day evaporated and I’m staring down the nose of a late night that guarantees another tired day.

Sleep, you are coming for me. And I welcome you with drooping eyelids.

  • Currently deploying a new Rails app to a subdomain of our existing URL and it feels so right, even though it also feels super hacky. But I thought that it would be much neater if we kept folks on the same domain. Thanks Passenger!

  • Sometimes there’s just too much to do and it feels overwhelming. Then you think of all of the things that you’re doing, you’ve done, and … it’s important to put things in perspective.

  • Watching the Conversative debate for PM on the BBC makes me feel ill to my core. So much weaselly words. So little clarity. Urgh.

  • “Can I have some more olives?”

    “One more”

    “No five”

    “Two then”

    “Three”

    I give him 2.

    “No, three!”

    I give him 1 more.

3 years old, negotiating like a pro.

  • Banning cars just seems to me to be the most sweeping way to bring back beauty to a city. Apart from the environmental issues, modern cars are on the whole simply aesthetically displeasing. The ignorance of dissenting voices aggravates me. Cars need to go! twitter.com/dublincyc…

  • New rule for micro.blogging: if I have a thought that I want to put out, I just write it in here and click “Publish” unfiltered. I feel like I have to curate Twitter (in truth I don’t), but I’m taking this at face value. Just a stream of thoughts into the ether.

I don’t care if anyone’s listening. I’m not looking for retweets or likes. Just thoughts, as they come, command-shift and d’ed into the world wide web.

  • MarsEdit is lovely because it feels deceptively … not so much simple, as underdeveloped. But as soon as you start using it, you realise that it’s solid, and you begin to trust it more. Little things happen in ways that you would expect, and when things break, they don’t blow up, but you get a nice little error here and there.

    Lovely. Just lovely.

  • Urrrrgh. The RAGE when a public wifi blocks an SSH port.

I’ve been feeling such comfort at home lately having set up such a solid WiFi. Easy to switch to Personal Hotspot, but shit, restricted public WiFi needs to become a thing of the past.

(Solid, amazing wireless internet should be a human right for everyone in 2019)

  • I could never have imagined how deep and focussed a 3yo could play with DUPLO. A little man constructs, then deconstructs over and over. When they say limitless possibilities, it’s so true. He makes himself a new toy every day, but also the process of making is so involved.

  • Sometimes I stay up way too late, because I can’t get a particular problem out of my head.

Tonight it was adding baked metrics to Tito’s admin dashboard. For too long our metrics have been inadequate, and I want to do something about it, so I put together a quick “admin_metrics” table that’s basically just a key and a value … a cache index if you will.

I’m looking forward to filling it with data and hopefully learning more about the business.

  • You haven’t lived until you’re changing a nappy (diaper) and you’re expecting the kid to do a wee, so you hold a nappy over his region only for him to spew half the bottle you just gave him, only to unleash the wee when you go to deal with the puke.

  • Microblogging from MarsEdit

I met @danielpunkass a good few years ago at Çingleton, and ever since I’ve always wanted a good reason to use MarsEdit. Delighted to see that he has a micro.blog.

We recently migrated the Tito blog over to WordPress and I’ve set that up in MarsEdit. I just added paulca.micro.blog too, and I’m excited to use a native app to post to the open web. Feels so right.
